Predrag Danilović
President
Predrag Danilović was born on February 26, 1970 in Sarajevo.
He played for Partizan, Virtus Bologna and NBA clubs Miami and Dallas, and ended his career in 2000 at Virtus.
With the national team of our country won gold at the 1989, 1991, 1995 and 1997 EPs, bronze at the 1999 EP, as well as silver at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
He was voted Europe’s best player in 1995 by FIBA.
With 1992 Partizan was the club champion of Europe, and he won the European Radivoj Korać Cup, national championship and two Yugoslav Cups.
In the Virtus jersey he was European champion in 1998, in Italy he won four national championships, one Cup and one Super Cup.
He successfully served as Partizan’s president for many years, which he left in August 2015.
The KSS did not have any candidates at the election assembly.
Borislav Stanković
Honorary President
Honorary president of the Basketball Federation of Serbia (KSS), Borislav Stankovic, was born in Bihac in 1925. The proclamation of first Yugoslavia found him in Novi Sad and when the war started, his family moved for a while to Ledinici (Srem) and then to Belgrade. Bora’s first choice in sport where tennis and table tennis. He even became the table tennis champion in 1943 when Belgrade was occupied. He repeated the same success three years later. After liberation, Bora turned to basketball. He was one of the participants at the founding session of the Sports Association Crvena Zvezda in 1945 and succeeded to win three titles with its basketball section. It was the time of the beginning of basketball in Yugoslavia when the game was played outdoors on concrete courts. After three years spent in Zvezda, he coached Zeleznicar and led it to the first league. Stankovic was a member of the national team of Yugoslavia for several seasons and participated in the 1953 World Championship in Argentina where the team ended in sixth place. After Crvena Zvezda, he also played for Partizan in the time he was going to complete his veterinary studies.
Bora first proved he was a true born winner and champion during his lenghty work with OKK Beograd. In the period from 1953 to 1966, along with his associates, he created literally a new club that could compete on equal terms with in that time superior Olimpija of Ljubljana. OKK Beograd (Belgrade’s “klonferi”) led by legendary shooter Radivoj Korac Zucko, won three national league titles. This was also the time when the national team started to bring medals from major world competitions. As Secretary General of the basketball organization of Yugoslavia in the period from 1956 to 1966, Stankovic again proved his outstanding devotion to the game of basketball.
After the “klonfers”, he also led Italian Oransoda Cantu and was the first foreign coach to win the Italian championship. Upon completion of his cocaching career, he started working with the world basketball organisation FIBA and spent even 26 years at the position of FIBA Secretary General. In that period, basketball has become a true “global phenomenon”, it is being played on all six continents and gets close to football in terms of mass affiliation of both players and fans. As a top diplomat, Stankovic has greately conrtibuted the unifying of basketball game that resulted in the reduction of a gap between that what the Americans call a professional basketball and the basketball played in the rest of the world. Along with the NBA league commissioner David Stern, Stankovic “opened the paths of cooperation” around twenty years ago when the first games between the NBA teams and European clubs and national teams were played. He has succeeded in somthing what earlier seemed almost impossible, that is, to have best American professional basketball players on the USA team at the World Championships and Olympic Games. The players “outside America” have flooded the NBA league and the basketball rules have been harmonized. All this has mostly been achieved owing to the vision of FIBA, that is, its first man, Stankovic.
“Honorary President of the Basketball Federation of Serbia, Borislav Stankovic, started his international career in 1958 as a memeber of the Commission for European Cups of FIBA. He met there William Jones and became his assistant and associate and as such one of the founders of the basketball world organization. Since 1969, he was permanently “employed” by FIBA where he stayed until his retirement in 2002. Deputy Secretary General from 1972 to 1976, Stankovic would hold the position of FIBA Secretary General for even twenty six years to follow.
Member of the International Olympic Committee since 1978. He was decorated with the Order of Merit Grand Cross First Class of the Federal Republic of Germany, Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honor of France, Merit for Yugoslavia First Degree, Yugoslavia as well as with many other awards and decorations.
He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991 and has been FIBA Secretary General Emeritus since 2002.”
