U18 National team of Serbia won the second place at the unofficial world championship, tournament “ Albert Schweitzer” in Mannheim. The players selected by the coach Milan Gurovic have been defeated in the final game by Germany 65:70 (16:16, 16:16, 16:23,17:15) and this is the second time the host defeated them.
In the first half both teams played equally, which is shown in the score itself. Both sides played pretty tough. At the beginning Germany had the advantage of 4:0, but our players responded with 10: 0 run . The result at the end of the first phase was equal – 16:16. The same was in the second part. Serbia had one to five points lead , but the hosting team kept reaching and were just one step from the advantage , owing to the brilliant Mushidi ( score 25, rebounds 11) .
In the third quarter the German team played better, scored several significant points and in the 30th minute took the lead with “ plus eight” ( 53:45) which , turned out as the crucial in the end.
Serbia attempted an offense at the beginning of the last part , but Mushidi was a puzzle , and he lead his team to 65:53.However, Simanic and Radovic with their three point field goals closed our team to 65:67 with 70 seconds left on the game clock, but Mushidi scored in his free throw and secured the triumph and cup to the German team.
Anyway , the second place in a strong world competition is a great success of Serbia….
The best scores in our team had Simanic with 22 points and Glisic with 16 points.
